ASWA has been supporting anthropology and anthropologists for over 50 years.
Anthropology takes us in all directions. Some of us work in government, some in academia, some in corporations, business, consulting and not-for-profit organisations. Some of us do our fieldwork in Western Australia, although we are based overseas or interstate. Some of us are based in Western Australia, but work in South East Asia, Africa, the Americas and elsewhere in the world. In our midst are students, retirees and community members who share a passion for our discipline.
Whatever your anthropological interests, ASWA is here to support you with professional development and networking events, advocacy and advice.
ASWA Membership
ASWA is a non-profit organisation. We depend on the dues, contributions, and volunteer efforts of our members.

Why should I join ASWA?
“Having my firm listed on the ASWA website showed potential clients that I was qualified to do the anthropological work they required of me. This was really important when I first started out on my own, but even today after working for some years I get new clients telling me they found me on the ASWA website.”

“The networking!”
— Ordinary (Student) Member
“I can’t imagine working in a profession your whole life and not wanting to stay connected in some way. I look forward to attending ASWA events. Through them (and some of the campaigns I have been involved with this year), I still feel as engaged in anthropology as I did when I was working.”
— Ordinary (Senior) Member
“Anthropology has its challenges and I enjoy hearing the experiences of other anthropologists in the field. I found the Women in Fieldwork forum really helpful. I’d like to see more of this sort of event.”
